Someone once said “See Naples before you die” Well,
he had definitely not seen Sikkim, the land of mystical splendour!
Welcome to our small and beautiful world where peace and tranquility
known no bounds, where the majestic Khangchendzonga beams over like the
crowing glory. God created this beautiful valley of flowers at this
leisure and this hidden paradise has been further blessed by Guru
Padmasambhave.
Holy, holistic and hospitality is the mantra and the way of living of
the Sikkimese. One comes to this blessed land as a guest and parts as a
friend forever. The hills echo with chimes of the prayer wheels and
colourful prayer flags flutter in the air, welcoming one and all. Green
carpet of meadows rool out its bounty to welcome adventure lovers.
Sikkim blends modernity with traditional, from carpet weaving shy girls
to techno savvy city educated youngsters, from traditional farming to
high-tech modern processing plants. Sikkim has presented some of the
finest citizens to the country from film personalities, such as, Danny
Denzongpa to Jaslal Pradhan, Pugilist, to Bhaichung Bhutia, the ace
footballer of the country. “All good Things come in small packages ………..
like this wonderland –Sikkim.”
Spread below the world’s 3rd higest peak-‘KHANGCHENDZONGA’ ( 8586MTS)
Lies this once independent Himalayan kingdom of ‘DEMAJONG’ –valley of
rice, now the 22nd State of the union of India. It has an area of 7,096 sq.km and an elevation ranging from
300 mts to 8586 mts. Sikkim is
bounded in the north by the high passes of Tibet, in the east by the
Kingdom of Bhutan, in the west by Nepal and to its south lies the
Indian State of west Bengal. Its population of 5 lakhs (approx.) people
comprising of the three major ethnic groups- Bhutia, Lepcha and Nepali
lives in an atmosphere of perfect peace and prosperity.
Sikkim’s landscape is rugged to extremes. Despite the fast and
overwhelming stride towards development, the State has managed to keep
its perpetual greenness and dwell in its unique traditions. A great
portion of our population still lives in the rural areas. The population
in the various towns are either traders or under the many Government
officers and undertakings.
Monsoon
being too generous for the summer months, the best season for holiday is
between March - June and October _ December. Sikkim is new avenue, it
is endowed with a beauty of the heights. But the best score foe sikkim
is something abstract – its ability to live and let others live in
peace. Peace is our reci’pe for your holiday !!! |
